Which waivers do you accept?
We primarily work with individuals utilizing the Brain Injury (BI) and Intellectual Disability (ID) waivers to provide comprehensive home and community-based services.
Are you a solo operation?
Yes. Iowa Haven is a focused, solo-managed agency. This ensures every individual and family receives direct attention from leadership without the communication barriers often found in larger organizations.
What geographic areas do you serve?
While based in West Des Moines, we work to facilitate Host Home placements and Skill Building services across various communities throughout Iowa.
Who can become a Host?
Adults 18 and older with a stable home, a private bedroom, clear background checks, a willingness to train, and reliable communication.
Do I need experience to host?
Experience definitely helps, but it is not strictly required for every role. We provide full onboarding, annual refreshers, and ongoing coaching.
How long do placements usually last?
Most placements are long term. We build them around careful transitions and clear, sustainable plans.
What kind of support do Hosts receive?
You will get comprehensive training, regular check-ins, easy-to-use documentation tools, and a highly responsive team.
Is there compensation for hosting?
Yes, stipends and reimbursements apply depending on the specific care plan.
How are individuals and hosts matched?
We look closely at personal preferences, daily routines, home accessibility, location, household composition, pets, and shared interests to find the perfect fit.
Do I need a spare bedroom?
Yes. A private bedroom is essential to ensure privacy and safety.
What if I have kids or pets at home?
Many of our households do. Just let us know so we can factor that in and make a careful, appropriate match.
Can I still work a regular job while hosting?
Often, yes. Schedules can be highly individualized based on the needs of the person you are hosting.
Are background checks required?
Yes. Clear background checks, personal references, and a comprehensive home safety review are all mandatory.
How fast can I start hosting?
You can begin as soon as your screening, training, and home approval processes are fully complete.
What happens if the match just isn't a good fit?
We monitor things closely, step in early, and help plan a respectful transition for everyone involved.
